Avalanche Course - 2027

Join one of our popular basic courses to and learn how to regognize avalanche terrain, practice companion rescue and much more! These courses are primarily thaught in English.  All instructors are IFMGA/Nortind guides. If the advertised dates doesn't suit you, please reach out. Our Advanced Snow and Mountain skills course is held in Norwegian and/or English depending on the group.

Basic Avalanche Course

This 2 day+ course covers the basics of avalanche hazard awareness, companion rescue, terrain management, stability assessment and navigation. There is a substantial homework part for preparation and two field days around Tromsø. The homework is sent out a week before the course. Usually we have a lot of fun and also get to ski nice snow. No previous avalanche knowledge is required but you need to have basic ski touring experience, and be comfortable on red slopes. There is a maximum of 6 students per group. The price is 3000Nok for the weekend course and 2700Nok on weekdays. Dates 2027:  January 23-24, January 28-29, February 6-7 and February 11-12. Snow and Mountain Skills- Level II

This is an advanced 3-day course, aimed at the skier who already has a few years of touring experience. We ran a pilot course last year and will follow up the successful concept this winter!

You should be used to touring and making decisions in KAST/ATES 2 terrain. Basic avalanche training and map reading skills are also required. The prevailing weather and snow conditions will dictate exactly what content we cover, but the runing main theme throughout the course is SSD (systematic snow cover diagnosis). Other subjects that we aim to cover are - the complexity of the snow pack and instability tests - steep skiing skills, rope management and snow anchors - terrain considerations -  advanced companion rescue and the human factor. There is 8 spots available but a maximum of only 4 students per guide. The price is 4100Nok.  Date 2027  February 19-21.
