Avalanche Course - 2026

Join one of our popular basic courses to "know before you go"! These courses are primarily held in English but gives you basic understanding of common Norwegian avalanche vocabulary. All instructors are IFMGA guides. If the advertised dates doesn't suit you, please reach out. The advanced Snow and Mountain skill course is held in Norwegian or English depending on the group.

Basic Avalanche Course

This 2,5 day course cover the basics of avalanche hazard awareness, companion rescue, terrain management, stability assessment and navigation. There is a homework part for preparation and two field days around Tromsø. The homework is sent out a week before the course. Usually we have a lot of fun and get to ski nice snow. No previous avalanche knowledge is required but you need to have basic ski touring experience. There is a maximum of 6 students per group. The price is 2900Nok for the weekend course and 2500Nok on weekdays. Dates 2026:  January 22-23, January 31-1/2 and February 12-13. NEW! Snow and Mountain - Level II

This is an advanced 3-day course, aimed at the skier who already has a few years of touring experience. You should be used to touring and making decisions in KAST/ATES 2 terrain, but wish to gain knowledge and confidence to make decisions in more exposed terrain. Basic avalanche training and map reading skills are also required. Subjects that we aim to cover are - the complexity of the snow pack and instability tests - steep skiing skills and rope management - terrain considerations -  advanced companion rescue and the human factor. The prevailing weather and snow conditions will dictate what the main focus will be. There is 8 spots available but a maximum of only 4 students per guide.
